Construction Accidents 3 Workers Seriously Injured In New York

On behalf of Licatesi Law Group, LLP posted in construction accidents on Friday, June 30, 2017.

It was recently reported that a serious incident at a New York construction site resulted in three workers suffering injuries. Construction accidents can often have severe results, and this situation was no different. Reports stated that the men were working on adding a third story to a two-story house when the incident occurred.

Apparently, heavy construction materials had been placed on the floor of the construction area, and this weight caused the floor to collapse while the workers were on it. As a result, two individuals became trapped under the debris. A third worker was able to escape, but he suffered serious injuries. Emergency crews arrived at the scene, and one of the trapped workers was rescued relatively early in the operation. The other trapped worker took more time to extract.

It was noted that work violations on the part on the contractor conducting the construction contributed to the accident. The man had allowed for the heavy materials to be placed on the flooring though he did not first get an assessment of the floor’s stability. The contractor has been suspended from operating in New York City due to this incident and multiple other previous violations.

The New York workers seriously injured in this incident likely feel lucky to have survived. Of course, they will undoubtedly face considerable setbacks as they work to recover from their serious injuries. This incident — as many construction accidents do — may allow them to qualify for workers’ compensation benefits. These benefits could help them financially as they attempt to overcome the injuries suffered, and therefore, they may wish to gain more information.
