Maintaining control of a motor vehicle is one of the most important aspects of driving. If an individual does not know how to properly handle a car or for some reason loses control one, motor vehicle accidents can easily occur. In such events, it is not unusual for multiple vehicles to be involved and for serious or fatal injuries to take place.

It was recently reported that an accident in New York took place due to this factor. Apparently, a driver was unable to keep the vehicle under control, and as a result, the car crossed into the opposite lane of travel. The car then collided with an SUV in the other lane. There were at least three people in the car and at least five people in the SUV.

The incident caused two passengers in the car to be ejected and suffer fatal injuries. Their ages were given as 20 and 23 years old. A 67-year-old woman in the SUV was transported from the scene to the hospital where she succumbed to the injuries she suffered. A man, woman and their two sons were also taken from the scene and were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

The families of the victims killed in this crash — as well as other individuals who have been similarly affected by motor vehicle accidents — may feel that pursuing compensation may be warranted. Filing wrongful death claims against the driver considered at fault may allow them to seek restitution for damages permitted under New York law. Gaining more information on this legal option may help them determine whether it could suit their particular circumstances.
