When a driver loses control of a vehicle, it is not uncommon for that individual to be unable to regain control. As a result, a serious car accident could easily take place and cause serious or fatal injuries. Unfortunately, even if only one vehicle is involved in such an event, the outcomes can prove devastating for many people.

It was recently reported that such an accident took place in New York. Apparently, a vehicle carrying a 22-year-old driver and a 17-year-old passenger crashed into a fire hydrant. The driver had reportedly lost control of the vehicle before striking the hydrant. The impact caused the fire hydrant to land on the other side of the street, and the vehicle caught on fire.

The passenger became trapped inside, and he suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. The driver of the vehicle was taken to a hospital due to injuries, and he is now facing charges for DUI. It was unclear whether any other factors may have contributed to the accident taking place. Additional information on the incident may be available at a later time.

The family of the teenager killed in this New York car accident may find themselves wishing to seek justice for the loss of their child. Filing a wrongful death claim against the driver considered at fault for the incident, as well as against any separate owner of the vehicle involved in the crash, may allow them to pursue that course of action. A successful claim could potentially result in their gaining compensation for funeral expenses and other damages permitted under state law.
