The loss of a young family member can have devastating effects on a family. When that loss comes about due to another person’s negligence, it can seem even more difficult to understand. Sadly, this type of situation often arises from motor vehicle accidents, and families commonly have to live with the grief that such an event causes.

One family in New York is undoubtedly feeling such heartbreak after a recent fatal crash. Reports stated that an 18-year-old man was driving a vehicle east when his car was hit in the side by another vehicle. The impact caused the teen’s vehicle to slam into two additional cars that were parked nearby. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

Though witnesses tried to help the young man, the injuries he suffered in the incident proved fatal. He died at an area hospital. The driver of the other vehicle involved was reported as being 21 years old and suffered minor injuries and did not wish to be treated at the scene. At the time of the report, the crash was still under investigation, and no charges had been filed yet.

The family of the young man killed in this New York crash — and others similarly impacted by motor vehicle accidents — may feel the need to seek justice for their loved one. One way in which they could go about doing so is to file a wrongful death claim against the driver considered at fault. This type of legal action could allow them to pursue compensation for damages permitted under state law.
