When drivers get behind the wheel while impaired, they put other travelers at unnecessary risk. Unfortunately, impaired drivers cause numerous motor vehicle accidents, and often, innocent individuals are the ones left suffering the most. It was recently reported that drugs were suspected to have played a role in a New York crash that killed two people.

Reports stated that the incident involved two vehicles when a 23-year-old man failed to stop at a red light. The man’s vehicle collided with a car that was carrying a 69-year-old man and his 68-year-old wife. The crash caused the older man to suffered fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was transported to an area hospital, but she also succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was the only survivor. Authorities suspected that he was under the influence at drugs at the time of the fatal incident. As a result, that man is currently facing charges for vehicular manslaughter, driving while impaired by drugs and other undisclosed allegations. He was taken into custody, and his bail was set at $750,000.

The family of the couple killed in this New York crash will undoubtedly face many emotional and financial struggles. Unexpected funeral costs for both loved ones can be especially challenging as well as other expenses that may result from the incident. These burdens and other damages may have the surviving family — and other families similarly affected by other motor vehicle accidents — considering their options for seeking compensation. Filing wrongful death claims could allow them to work toward recompense and justice, if they wish to follow this route.
