Running from the police is never a wise choice. If an individual does attempt to flee from authorities, especially while driving a vehicle at high speeds, he or she could be putting many individuals at risk. Motor vehicle accidents could easily result from drivers who are traveling erratically in hopes of avoiding the authorities, and as a result, individuals who are negatively affected may have reason to take legal action of their own.

It was recently reported that an accident occurred under such circumstances in New York. A 45-year-old man was driving over the speed limit, and as a result, police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, the driver stopped only for a moment before driving off. Police tried to pursue the vehicle but were unable to keep it in sight.

Approximately 10 blocks away from the initial stop point, the driver of the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into another car. The collision caused both vehicles to leave the road and end up in the front yard of a residence. A passenger in the first car suffered fatal injuries as a result, and the driver of the second vehicle suffered a broken jaw. Authorities were still continuing to investigate at the time of the report.

Serious motor vehicle accidents take place on a daily basis, but when the incident involves relatives or other loved ones, the situation can be very traumatic. The family of the individual killed in this New York accident may wish to consider filing a wrongful death claim for seeking compensation from the driver considered at fault for resulting damages. Additionally, the other injured party may also wish to learn more about personal injury claims.
