The death of a loved one can be a devastating experience. When the loss comes about due to the negligent actions of another person, many surviving loved ones may feel the need to pursue justice for themselves and on behalf of the deceased. Motor vehicle accidents are a common scenario in which negligent deaths occur.

It was recently reported that such an incident took place in New York. Apparently, a 54-year-old man was driving an SUV when it struck another car at an intersection. The car then hit another vehicle that was attempting to make a left turn. The SUV also collided with two parked vehicles. Authorities were called to the scene of the incident just before 3 a.m.

The driver of the car was unconscious when emergency crews arrived, and he was declared deceased at the accident site. Reports stated that he was 31 years old. It was reported that two women were also injured in the incident and taken to an area hospital. The driver of the SUV was arrested, and he is currently facing charges for DWI-related allegations.

When motor vehicle accidents have fatal outcomes, the situations could warrant legal action. In addition to the criminal charges the SUV driver faces, the deceased man’s family could also file a civil claim for wrongful death against him. The two injured women may also have reason to file personal injury claims of their own. Successful claims could allow them to obtain compensation for their losses, medical bills and other damages permitted under New York state law.
