Though working in construction is often exciting for many workers, it can also come with many unknowns. When trying to build a structure or carry out renovations, certain scenarios could arise that individuals were not prepared for. Unfortunately, construction accidents happen fairly often, and many parties suffer serious injuries as results of these incidents.

It was recently reported that a construction accident took place in New York. Apparently, certain areas of a recycling plant were undergoing renovations, and a construction crew was on the site. While carrying out their duties, a wall inside the plant collapsed and caused an avalanche of debris. Two of the construction workers in the area were hit by debris. It was unclear what may have caused the wall to collapse.

Both of the workers injured in the incident were transported from the scene to an area hospital. One of the workers was reported as suffering minor injuries, and the other individual suffered a broken ankle. It was noted that the city Department of Buildings would be conducting a structural stability inspection of the building, presumably to determine whether this type of incident could occur anywhere else in the plant.

Any type of broken bone can have serious impacts, and it is likely that the New York worker who suffered a broken ankle will need time away from work in order to recover. During this time, there is a possibility that the person could face medical expenses, lost wages and other financial hardships that could prove challenging to handle. Luckily, individuals who are injured on the job due to construction accidents typically qualify for workers’ compensation benefits that could potentially help with such financial struggles, and information on how to apply may prove useful.
