Many individuals may get a thrill out of driving fast, but exceeding the speed limit can be dangerous in many situations. Individuals who are racing or otherwise driving at excessive speeds could easily cause motor vehicle accidents. In turn, these accidents could result in severe or fatal injuries to those individuals involved.

It was recently reported that an accident in New York involved three vehicles. The driver of a car crashed into the back of an SUV, and the SUV subsequently hit a van. A witness to the event stated that the SUV then hit a guardrail, and the car struck a pole and overturned. Additionally, the witness and other individuals tried to help the occupants of the car. At the time of the report, it was suspected that the driver of the car may have been drag racing.

A passenger in the car suffered fatal injuries as a result of the accident. He was reported as being 39 years old. At least two more individuals were in the car at the time and were treated for unspecified injuries. The driver of the car and another driver were taken into custody, and authorities were continuing to investigate claims of racing. It was unclear what vehicle the second suspect may have been driving.

The family of the man killed in this incident — and individuals similarly affected by motor vehicle accidents — may wish to find out what options they have for seeking compensation. They will likely want more information regarding the incident, and that information could help them if they wish to pursue a lawsuit. A wrongful death claim could assist them in this endeavor if they want to seek compensation for damages permitted under New York law.
