Two of our attorneys, senior litigating partner Anthony J. Licatesi and senior trial attorney Jennifer M. Ahlfeld, recently put their litigation and negotiation skills to use to help three of our personal injury clients reach favorable settlements in their cases, totaling more than $2.1 million in compensation.

Our first client was a 37-year-old woman struck by a bicyclist traveling the wrong way on a one-way street in Brooklyn. She suffered multiple facial fractures that required surgery involving screws and plates and resulted in permanent nerve damage and numbness. Even though she admitted to crossing outside of a crosswalk, we were able to settle the case during trial after a thorough cross-examination of the defendant’s expert witness. We helped our client recover a $500,000 settlement.

Our second client was a 42-year-old man who slipped on an icy sidewalk after a cesspool overflowed on an adjacent property in Suffolk County. He suffered ankle fractures that required three surgeries involving the installation and removal of hardware as well as a surgical debridement. While he will suffer pain and mobility problems for the rest of his life as a result of this accident, our personal injury attorneys were able to help him reach two settlements without the need for a trial. The first was with the cesspool owner for $300,000 and the second, for $650,000, was with the owner of the icy property where he slipped.

The third client was a 38-year-old man who came to us after he suffered several herniated discs in a rear-end vehicle collision in Nassau County. His injury is expected to cause pain and weakness permanently, and he has already undergone multiple invasive surgeries. Even though the defendant tried to shift blame for some injuries to a later accident, our attorneys were able to help the man recover $650,000 in a settlement, avoiding the need for a trial.
