HUD Elimnates Photo ID Requirement

Reverse mortgage borrowers are no longer required to provide photo identification when applying for a FHA insured reverse mortgage, according to Mortgagee Letter 2006-23, which the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development published on September 27.

HUD Clarifies Counseling Requirements
October 3, 2006
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development published Mortgagee Letter 2006-25 to clarify who must receive HECM counseling, and what activities a HECM lender may perform prior to a prospective HECM borrower receiving HECM counseling.
